Titanium Sportive/ Touring/ Audax Frames; A Sportive or Audax frame is a frame that allows for mudguards and in most cases a rear rack it is lighter than a touring bike and the geometry is more racey (yet slightly more relaxed than a road racer). A Touring Frame is a frame designed to handle bicycle touring, with mudguards and front and rear pannier racks (not all come with front racks as this is dependant on the fork). Titanium is the perfect material for Sportive/ Audax and Touring frames, its high strength, low density, low modulus, excellent fatigue and corrosion resistance deliver a skeleton that is not only extremely strong and durable, but also incredibly lightweight. Similar to steel, Titanium has an in-built flexibility, only it is more pronounced. Therefore it is ever so slightly ‘springy’, which means it can absorb road vibration before it reaches the rider (A Titanium seat post more or less eliminates it). Consequently, you feel like you are gliding across tarmac, even when riding hard and over the distances you cover when touring or in a sportive event this can make a huge difference (we often hear 'I'm not hobbling to the bath at the end of an event thanks to my Ti Audax bike'). Another huge advantage of titanium is that it does not break down, rust or corrode under any atmospheric conditions and unlike aluminium or carbon bikes, Titanium won’t ‘snap’ in an accident.
